When it comes to vegetarian food, Cardiff has been described as "a bit of black hole".
This, however, is no longer the case with the Vegetarian Food Studio gaining several awards and national
recognition for its pure and authentic vegetarian menu.
Located on Penarth Road, a short walk away from the city centre is our friendly, family run restuarant which offers an extensive range of pan-asian
vegetarian dishes which has earned us an army of devotees.
The main driving force behind the Vegetarian Food Studio is Neil Patel, who has had a passion for cooking since a very early age when he used to help cook for community events with his Grandmother (who
can be still found in
the Kitchen on ocassions preparing the fresh breads for the restaurant!).
The business was started in late 2003 with the help of his family and using Neil's own life savings,
in just a short time has attracted many customers from both the
South Wales Indian Community and those from further afield seeking their first
taste of authentic vegetarian and vegan foods from Asia.
As our head chef and owner, Neil Patel said:
"We had a hard battle getting customers to try our food here but gradually the
word started getting around and we started getting people in, who tried the food
and helped us get where we are now.
The inspiration behind this business is oour religion which forbids us to eat fish, eggs and meat. The community around us share the same beliefs and so the food we prepare are our own recipies based on traditional indian cooking.
Our aim is to cater for our customers tastes and they are surpised at the variety of our dishes and the care we take to cater for those with allergies.
Having built the Vegetarian Food Studio into Cardiff's leading vegetarian restaurant and winning recognition at a national level, plans are afoot to expand into a bigger location and open another store, however as Neil says
We are a family business and this is a restaurant where families can come and enjoy good food at reasonable prices and will always remain so.
I want people from all backgrounds to sample the different and authentic traditional Indian and Asian inspired vegetarian and vegan cuisine on offer.
